Foundation Wall Supports
Walls bowing inward or horizontal cracks running across them mean soil pressure is winning. Our team, and a structural engineer when needed, determines which wall supports (anchors or steel I-beams) will keep the wall from moving any further, restoring a safe, stable home for your family.

What Makes A Basement Wall Bow
A basement wall is holding back soil, and that soil pushes. In Kansas City clay, that push increases dramatically when the soil is saturated, and again when saturated soil freezes and expands. Over enough seasons, the wall starts to give.
In a block wall that shows up as a horizontal crack partway up, usually near the middle where the leverage is greatest, sometimes with the courses above shifted inward. In a poured wall it shows as a horizontal crack and visible bowing. Either way the wall is losing the argument with the soil, and that is a structural condition rather than a cosmetic one.
How Wall Support Systems Work
Assessment first, with an engineer where warranted
Bowing is a structural issue, so what the wall needs should be specified by someone qualified to specify it. We bring in a structural engineer where the situation calls for it. You get a scope based on the wall, not on a product line.
Anchors
Wall anchors tie the basement wall back to stable soil out in the yard, resisting the inward push. They can also allow for gradual straightening over time as conditions permit.
Steel I-beams
Vertical steel braced against the floor system above and the slab below, resisting further inward movement of the wall. Used where interior bracing is the appropriate approach for the wall and the space.
Address the water driving it
Soil pressure goes up when soil is saturated. Supporting a wall while leaving the drainage that saturates the soil untouched treats the symptom. We look at grading, French drains, and downspouts as part of the same conversation.
Monitoring
Wall movement is measurable. Where it is useful, establishing a baseline lets you see whether the wall is stable after the repair rather than guessing.
How Urgent Is It?
Get it inspected promptly
Horizontal cracking, visible inward bowing, block courses shifted out of plane, or a wall that has visibly changed since you last looked at it. These are load conditions, and they do not improve on their own.
Why waiting costs more
Wall support installed while a wall is still relatively straight is far less invasive than what is required once the wall has moved significantly. At the far end of that curve, the answer stops being support and becomes rebuilding the wall. The inspection is free, which makes waiting hard to justify.
What Determines The Cost
We do not publish a price, because a number without seeing your foundation is a guess. Here is what actually moves it, so you know what we are looking at during the free inspection.
- Length of wall requiring support and the number of anchors or beams
- Support method, which is driven by the wall and the site rather than preference
- Wall construction, block or poured
- Exterior access, since anchors require work in the yard
- Whether a structural engineer is engaged to specify the repair
- Any associated drainage work addressing the water behind the wall
Foundation Wall Supports FAQs
It is a structural condition and it warrants prompt inspection rather than panic. Walls generally move over seasons rather than overnight. The reason not to wait is that the repair scales with how far the wall has moved, so early is cheaper and less invasive.
Sometimes, gradually, depending on the wall and the method. Anchors in particular can allow for improvement over time as soil conditions permit. What is realistic for your wall is something the assessment determines. We would rather tell you the honest ceiling than promise a wall will return to plumb.
We use anchors and steel I-beams. What a given wall needs is determined by the wall and, where appropriate, by a structural engineer, rather than by what a supplier is promoting.
Most residential installations are a matter of days rather than weeks. Anchors involve exterior excavation, so weather and site access factor in. You get a timeline with the written estimate.
Interior support systems are visible on the wall. If the basement is finished, some finish work is typically disturbed. We will show you exactly what the installation looks like in your space before you commit.
